Hello. I may be going to the area next month. I've been on this kick of going to places close to home that I've never been to. Is there any recent hurricane damage? We've had so many on the Gulf Coast this year I can't remember where each one made landfall. Thanks.

I just moved to the area. I live near Pass Christian. I'm told there used to be a cute little downtown with 6 or so blocks of cafes and shops. Its hard to imagine anything like that ever existed. The roads are rather rough near the beach. I guess they were bad before, but Gustav made them worse. Everywhere you go you see Katrina Cottages and FEMA trailers. Bay St Louis and Waveland are worse. The whole area is coming back at a remarkable rate, but driving down Hwy 90, you'll see lot after lot of front steps leading to nothing and empty slabs. Gulfport seems a little better off.

The Pass did have lots of cute shops, and restaurants. Many of the pictures I think floated away too. Did the Blue Rose restaurant reopen? It used to be in the B & B. The widow I believe sold it shortly after rebuilding. Not sure if it's even open as a B & B even.
Another restaurant used to be beachfront, and was reknown. Now it's opened I think in Long Beach or Gulfport. Darn...can't recall the name!
Couple of other cute shops I know have reopened but in other towns as it took so long to get the Pass back (if you can call this "back"). One is a specialty store featuring local artisans. It's now in Ocean Springs. Of course, there was the bookstore which is now further inland, but still in the Pass. The 1st business to reopen was the hardware store, back in its original location but actually looking even better. I am sure they've done well!
Is the Gazebo Gazette still operating? I can't seem to find any issues online anymore.
