It kind of depends on where you will be based. Natchez is wonderful and full of history. Meridian has a Dentzel carousel. Hattiesburg has the Armed Forces Museum(wonderful). And Elvis stuff. THE ELVIS IS ALIVE MUSEUM. Of course, Tupelo is the birthplace of the King. Google Jackson for the arts. The coast is home to casinos and celebrity appearances. There is the Stennis Space Center. Have fun!

Jackson Free Press | News, Opinions, Music, Events and Dining | Jackson, Mississippi has lots of info about local happenings in JXN proper.

Leaving JXN, drive about 30 minutes on I-20 W to Vicksburg, go downtown and visit the charming Highway 61 Coffee. Have a slice of marble cake and a coffee, then go upstairs and check out the local artwork. Thursday nights they have live music. Next door is a bookshop, and if you stroll down the street you'll find boutiques and restaurants. Leaving V'burg, head down 61 South to Port Gibson. You can ask at any gas station for directions to Windsor Ruins (I don't remember offhand; it's down a long, winding country road). You'll arrive to find tall pillars hidden away in the trees like a long-forgotten pagan temple.

A bit farther down Hwy 61 you'll come to Natchez. I was born there but haven't been there in awhile, so a Natchez native would be of better help. Anyway, be sure to see Monmouth Plantation and maybe take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the city. From Natchez hop on Hwy 84, drive for a couple of hours, then get on 49 South and go to Hattiesburg. You could visit the Armed Forces Museum, Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, take in a play at the Saenger Theater (est. 1929), or go canoeing.

From Hattiesburg, Gulfport-Biloxi is about an hour south down Hwy 49. You can relax on the beaches, visit Jefferson Davis' home Beauvoir, or take in a concert at the Beau Rivage. Ocean Springs is especially beautiful, IMHO.
