Im looking on a map and these look like the bigger areas on the coast. Which would be the place to move if you had $150,000 for a house? Good schools woulld be important and would prefer and older fixer-upper/updater house.

Thanks.

Edit: Let me add Pascagoula to that also.

I personally love Ocean Springs and I think they're supposed to have good schools.

Keep in mind all of those areas are right next to the water, so the insurance will be expensive and you'll have to evacuate when a storm comes.

Yes. Thanks.

Also, are there any other nice towns by lakes in Southern Mississippi? I saw a big lake by Jackson. Any others I should maybe look into?

Does anyone know of a site where I can compare insurance rates for on the coast and a bit off the coast? I am not quite sure how to get general info before purchasing a house. Thanks.

In my opinion, Ocean Springs is the most beautiful of the Coastonian cities.

Here is the link for the Mississippi Windpool Hazard Insurance. You will see the link for rates with effect June 2008. The rates are broken down by zone and then by primary construction - brick, vinyl etc. The figure is the premium per $100,000 of property value, so you would multiply the figure by 1.5 for a property value of $150,000.
MWUA - Home

Arguably the best school systems in the area are Long Beach, Woolmarket and Ocean Springs and along with it comes higher taxes (although still very low compared to other parts of the US)

With the purchase of a home in Long Beach or Ocean Springs, I generally recommend flood insurance also usually about $450 a year (better safe than sorry)

I can provide you with information of properties currently available in these areas that meet your criteria - just hola lol!!!

As far as schools go, may want to check sites online such as SchoolDigger.com - School Rankings, Reviews and More - Public and Private Elementary, Middle, High Schools to get rankings of schools in the state and specific areas you are looking at.
