We might be relocating from California to Mississippi. We would be looking for something thats close to Senatobia. We have a 2 and 4 year old and would like somewhere that has good schools and low crime. But, somewhere that's not too small. We are looking in the price range of $250,000-300,000. I've heard about Desoto County but I'm not sure what town would be the best. I'd appreciate any information.

Everyone seems to be moving to North MS! I don’t know much about schools in
Senatobia, MS but I hear that the whole county has a good school system and is booming. I have lived in Cali., and I can tell you that a $250,000 dollar home in the area would be comparable to a $500,000 dollar home in L.A. or San Diego area. You could easily buy new construction around 2000+ square feet for that price.

Good Luck!

tayandlivsmom, welcome to MS
My relative bought a condo in SanJose (250K), CA 5 years back she sold it 2 years ago (for 450K), moved to Desoto, MS and pay off her 200K home here in Desoto.
Since you were from CA with 2 and 4 years old kids, I recommend Desoto over Senatobia.
1. Desoto has a best school system in state
2. Desoto is which in Memphis' metro, closer to everything ...jobs, activities, shopping .....
3. Folks are still heading south to Senatobia...but life is much better right now in Desoto, you may thinking about Senatobia later after State finish construction HW I-269 which is ..10-15 years from now.
4. 200-300K will get you a very nice 3000 plus square foot home in north of HW 302, but I do recommend the area in the half south of Desoto where closed to Desoto Central or Lewisburg school area (closer south but still in Desoto). You can find a very nice home for under 300K.
BTW, Don't expect the housing price appreciation here like you experienced in CA, But do expect Desoto, a best place to raise your kids.
Good luck! Will be more than happy to recommend or help you to know more about what's going on in this region. Do not hesitate to post for question.

You'd probably fit in around the Olive Branch area. Look into sending your children to SBEC school. It's private and nice.
