Miss. mayor indicted on Katrina fraud charges - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090128/ap_on_re_us/katrina_fraud_mayor - broken link)

From the complete outside looking in, I know nothing about this person, it seems extreme.
Quote:
Mississippi Auditor Stacey Pickering, whose office was involved in the investigation, said the Warrs face up to 210 years in prison and $4 million in fines if convicted on all counts.

Just from reading the article, it seems the problem is that he claimed this was a primary residence? But then this was alreay happening?
Quote:
Brent Warr bought the house in 2004 and was almost finished with renovations and close to moving in when the storm blew ashore, Owen said. He was already staying there some nights.
I can see a problem with a primary residence claim, but what in the hell could possibly lead to what the sentence could possibly be. That's absolutely absurd. Once again, this is based on the little I know from this article.

If you go to the SunHerald site, the picture is on the front page. The house looks gorgeous from the outside!

I can't imagine any of the Warr's, who have lived and worked, worshiped and contributed to the community is so many positive ways ever *not* their principle dwelling in the Gulf Coast area. It has been their true home for many years. I don't know how many generations. If work takes a person out of the area, IE Military Service, overseas construction, whatever, that doesn't mean they lose their "primary" residence. Just like being displaced by a hurricane or tornado, until a new home or apartment can be found or repaired, one must live someplace.

I don't know Brent Warr. I did meet him over 10 years ago in passing with a friend in the DAR. I haven't ever heard of any worse witch hunt than this. Smacks loudly of political ambition from someone. Who or why, I don't know but it is a shame. He and his family have earned the right to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
