Wow, New England and the Pacific Northwest seem more and more desirable by the day!

Yeah but they go overboard in the other direction, like having stupid rules against Christmas trees.

The "stupid rule against Christmas trees" is the controversy over cities and towns putting up decorations according to specific religious holidays- usually on City or Town hall land. The argument is that it represents government sanction of religion which it is not allowed to do.

So what this person means is that he/she does not support the first amendment to the constitution of the U.S.

Well, this is both good and bad for Mississippi. I was practically brainwashed in all those little sunday school taliban training centers....but on the good side, a Mississippian seems to be more honest than most people...hell we've been taught since the cradle that lying is wrong. Now go to some parts of the country and you'll sink in the lies, so I think it's a good thing to have some religion, but bad to be too carried away with it. Example: I have written bad things about other states, and the moderators would get wild with anger...but I've said both the good and bad about Mississippi, and nobody yet had gotten crazy over it. Why? Because we were raised to tell the truth.

A Baby in a Manger would be a religious symbol, in my opinion a Christmas tree is not.

If a Christmas tree can't be allowed then everything else that has to do with Christmas shouldn't be either. No more lights, wreaths, garland, snowmen, reindeer, or Santa Claus....zilch...nothing. When I was a kid I went to a Christian school and we couldn't celebrate Halloween, we had to call it a stupid "fall festival". We were forbidden to dress up in costumes or go trick or treating and I hated it, especially when I seen other kids having fun. What you are doing is just as bad, except the tables are turned and it's a different holiday.
