Having just come back from Mississippi, I think the southern accent has eternally rooted itself in Mississippi.

I hope so. There is something so wrong with Mississippians losing their accents. I enjoy hearing it.

Grandfather had a wonderful Mississippi accent he never lost, although he lived his last 40 or so years in California. Oh, that man! I loved just being quiet in his presence. Not only that accent, but he was literally the most intelligent and learned man I have ever known.
