How old are your kids? I know the High School is better than most in the state- they got a new biology teacher and scores slipped a bit, but still respectable. I think anytime you have a public school that is responsible for teaching University faculty's children, your going to have a better school if for no other reason than you tend to have a much greater degree of parental involvement.

We are not starting school until next year. Mine are 4 and 2. But my older one is showing signs of adhd, right now we are waiting to see if he will out grow it, but we wanted him to be in a good school because I'm afraid that he will have a harder time if he goes somewhere that he might slip by. He is a very smart little boy, he just can't pay attention, but he also just turned 4 last month.

If you have valid reason to suspect ADHD, please have it diagnosed by a competent professional, then get a second opinion to verify it prior to sending your son to school. That condition is vastly overdiagnosed and can lead to your son being labeled and unnecessarily medicated from day one. Little boys are active and rambunctious, and need outlets to get rid of that energy. Sitting quietly in a classroom is not a natural state for them. Teachers are sometime too quick to support a parent's fears of a nonexistent disorder if that child is going to be drugged into a compliant state.

We are in speech therapy right now, but his therapist suspected it. Last year we took him to North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford and they said that if he was still like this at the age of 6 then is was adhd. But I have noticed he is improving a little bit. We are really trying to push is concentration at home with memory and learning letters and numbers. His preschool teacher said she thinks his attention is a little better. I have also thought about giving him fish oil. I am really afraid of adhd medication, but I know one day I may have to do that.

That's why we are thinking of Lafayette, we are hoping the teachers would work with him and make sure he is with everyone else and not just pass him by.
