I thought I would reply since I only moved away a week ago. After living in the Mississippi Delta for the last four years, can honestly say there is no place like it. You'd THINK that being from Clinton, Mississippi would make me immune to culture shock. Boy was I wrong! While I wouldn't call the Delta a third world country, I would say it is an economically depressed area. Don't get me wrong, all classes are represented--there just seems to be a big disparity between the "haves" and "have nots". What is even more troubling is that this belief is so deeply-rooted that people are just resigned themselves to it being the way it is supposed to be. I hope the new bridge will bring some new "blood", buisnesses, and families to the area. However, that remains to be seen at this time.

On the positive side, I have had countless adventures trying to find something to do! Community theater, gyms, symphonies-you name it! The Delta is home to some of the nicest and most generous people I have ever met in my life. If I could have packed them all in my uhaul and taken them with me, I would have. Your experience in any place is ultimately what you make it. It took a bit of effort, but I think that the Delta was a great place to live (thanks to online shopping).
