acupuncture (Ocean Springs, Lake: credit, university, move to)

Hello,

I am an oriental medicine student trying to decide where to move to start my practice. Being from Louisiana, I want to return to the south, and MS has just passed a bill on acupuncture that I could practice under. However, it requires that, at least for the next four years (when the bill expires,) I work only under MD referral.

I want to know, how do you (the various people in this forum) weigh the demand for a fully trained (4 year graduate degree) acupuncturist and herbalist in your respective areas? Also, if you have some sense of the matter, how receptive are your physicians to making one a meaningful part of your health care?

Y.C. Jo Chen is the Doctor you need to get in touch with. He is a high energy, no bull, super organized, very kind all american chinese guy that does great medicine. I know that's not the combination you'd expect to see about most doctors. But he's a great guy. Talk to him and I bet he can get you in the right direction. He runs a Pain Management Practice out of Ocean Springs and has treatment rooms at Cedar Lake Surgery Center. He's a busy guy. Ya never know he may even need a couple of extra hands. Call his office make an appointmant for a consult. Let the pieces fall where they may. Please just know what your talking about, don't look like an idiot, and be put together, he has no time for foolishness. If it works let me know I'll take credit for it. wink wink ;-) Jo is a friend and business aquaintance. But you didn't hear any of this from me....

I can offer this tidbit: the starkville area, because of the university, has a VERY large transient asian population. I would not worry about being too close to a doctor, as we presently have a bit of a shortage and so most doctors have more than one office and move around the state from day to day. This could work out well for both of you no matter where you decided to locate, since you could set up a practice that could serve as a satellite office 1 or 2 days a week for your... mentor(?).
