I am moving to Clarksdale at the end of July and I am very excited. Obviously it is a depressed area, but that means there is an abundance of opportunity to help bring change to the area. I hope to be a part of that, organizing talent, youth, and community to become involved in their own lives and their city. There are some very worthy people and very worthy places that just need a bit of dusting off so to speak. Look out Clarksdale, here I come!!!

Depressed area huh? Its more like a war zone goverend by Somali warlords.Good grief! I would strongly urge you to visit For awhile first. It does have some good qualities but they cannot outweigh the bad.

Tourism is improving this area over some other areas in the Delta, at least.

Default Response to Brarew

Hi Brarew,

I may be moving to Clarksdale soon with a similar interest to yours. I will be working part time, but am looking for more opportunities to do work in the community (ideally paid, but would be willing to consider unpaid, too, if I can make a living elsewhere). I am curious what you have gotten involved with since your move to Clarksdale. I am coming in pretty disoriented and would love any advice or leads you have!

I would visit first. We spent a year in Greenville. I made some great friends. I loved my job and I loved our church. But Greenville was a war zone. I have never seen crime and poverty like that in my life. The Delta is a whole different world. Spend some time there before you make a decision to move.

Default Delta is a Great Place to Live

I am moving back to the Delta after several years of being away from it! I miss the slow pace of life there. Sure crime is bad but the cost of living is a whole lot cheaper. Hey if you cant get a job there you can live off the govt. for an eternity!!!! The govt expects it there and doesnt ask any questions. Why live in South Mississippi where taxes will go up to pay for the people in the Delta? I have lived all over Mississippi and there is no area better than the Greenville, MS area....I give it a 10 because I now get over $1200 a month in free money just to be lazy and the suckers in the rest of the State help pay for it!

To Listener2307: Stick around...someone just might! Seems to occur at least once a week. Starting to sound like Memphis.
To Traveller46: No, thanks. Stay where you are. You're right - there's enough of you here already. Don't need you here. Or perhaps that's the idea...you want to add to the problem, make it harder for the community to improve or the State to stay fiscally sound. Why don't you go on out to California and help them stay bankrupt!?
To Brarew & NellieJ: I hope y'all made it here. There's work to be had and opportunities to be part of a healing community that is trying to rejuvenate!
