Oh that's easy. My mom lives here and her "boyfriend" had a house vacant to rent here in Lucedale. Real cheap. Super cheap. So we thought we'd give it a try.

So now you know it's not working, why not give another area of MS a try? You couldn't PAY me to live in Lucedale lol.

And--DaniMae--what qualifications do you and your partner bring to the table? I am from the North and I was gainfully employed in a professional area for nearly 20 years--in Mississippi--I have an accent and am easily identified as a Yankee. Haven't had any problem. Are you and the Blueman getting the picture?? You both are an embarrassment to the North.

If it is the mom's boyfriend, I am sure the lease could be gotten out of quite easily if you really wanted to go back North so badly.

I would put a little more thought into your posts. Salary disparity is not as great as people would like you to believe. The big problem isn't disparity of incomes, but diversity of work. There aren't as many different thriving industries in Mississippi as say New York.

Overall, it's about quality of life which makes it completely subjective. Don't pi$$ on others because your QoL expectations are different than theirs.
and when you retire your choice will be to stay where you are. I moved to the West Coast, tripled my salary and when I retired I could afford anywhere I wanted, except San francisco

I have been to Mississippi, for the very first time this week actually. I toured Hattiesburg, Jackson, Vicksburg and thoroughly enjoyed my time in that great state. Very beautiful city layouts, it was hard to think that Jackson was even a larger city because its so hidden in the trees. Hattiesburg was beautifully spread out to give it a small town feel, at least this is what I seen coming in from Mobile, Alabama. I didnt run into anyone unfriendly and left the state with some great pictures, and some great memories of my first time there.

Why the personal attack? That is uncalled for. My husband is a 16 year plumber with a Master's License. He was told by a few places in the Mobile area that he was over qualified. Nobody wanted to hire a Master. The just wanted helpers and journeymen. I am cleaning for a Home Health agency. A few of my clients, who are very old and longtime residents of Lucedale, have told me that THIS is not the place for outsiders! They said that most of the business is family run and they only hire family members. That does not include the coast or Hattiesburg....the problem there is the economy. Not enough construction going on.

No he is turning out to be real jerk. He jumped all over us because we are having a hard time getting 6 acres of grass cut all in one day. Keep in mind it is over 100 degrees in the daytime. So we wait till evening. It can take 2 or 3 nights to finish. (that is just an example)
