Keep in mind one simple fact of life. Places like mississippi, alabama, many parts of tennessee have been inpoverished for a long time so if you move into an area, there is much less waste of available resources. In other words, much lower property taxes.

Lower salaries too. Thanks, but I'll stick with my $65k a year job in New York. Nice try though.

Salary is relative obviously to where you live. What part of New York do you live in? When I lived in New York, 65k wouldn't get someone out of an apartment. Meanwhile in another state 55k may mean living in a small home with land.

I would put a little more thought into your posts. Salary disparity is not as great as people would like you to believe. The big problem isn't disparity of incomes, but diversity of work. There aren't as many different thriving industries in Mississippi as say New York.

Overall, it's about quality of life which makes it completely subjective. Don't pi$$ on others because your QoL expectations are different than theirs.

I have a friend making like 100k in the city, she's in a 2bdrm apt and had to move to NJ to afford that...I can make 30k on the coast of MS and live very comfortably in a 3 bdrm house (my rental was only 6 yrs old)

65k sounds like a lot, but if you are in a higher cost of living area, it means nothing lol

I'd rather make less and live in the country with a lower cost of living than make mega bucks living in a city.

Please don't try to talk New Yorkers into moving to Mississippi..Remember- to them we're ignorant hicks who eat dirt, have shameful thoughts about our female relatives, and persecute poor but noble minorities who only strive for a better life.

They are happy where they are- let's leave them alone, and up North!

Please don't stereotype Northerners or make sweeping statements like that. I'm originally from NY and am excited to be moving to MS, but ignorant blanket statements make the 'individual' look uneducated and juvenile. Have an open mind, don't judge large groups of people based on the actions of one or a dozen.

A dozen "good" Yankees is not worth having to tolerate the one loudmouth with an attitude.
