Hello! I am originally from Greenwood in the Delta and my family has lived in the suburbs of Richmond, VA for the past 8 years. Although I love this area I would really like to move "back home" to be closer to family and enjoy a more rural setting. Most of my family is from the Northeast MS area: Iuka, Tishomingo, Booneville, Tupelo, and the Jackson, TN area. Corinth seems like such an idyllic, quaint little city.

I have been looking online at the local realtors websites and the housing prices are fantastic. I don't know a lot about the area, though. Are there some areas of town to avoid? I have 2 children, ages 10 and 13, so schools are important. How is the job market? My husband is currently the sales manager for a local carpet store.

Any information to get started would be greatly appreciated!

Normally, I would not be responding to folks regarding the South or Southeast, as I am from the Pacific NW and have never lived east of Texas. However, I have in-laws and hubby's family in Iowa, some relatives in SC and in NC. This past year, some good friends we've known for 20 years moved from San Diego (where they'd lived for about 25 years - Navy guy) to Corinth. They LOVE it. Low cost of living (well, of course, almost any place is lower than most areas of San Diego County). They said the people are great, they got a house cheap - even by other folks standards - and they both got jobs very quickly. They have family in FL and MO, so were sorta going closer to 'home' anyhow. They looked all over for a good place for pre-retirees. There is no 'gang' problem, per se. Of course, if you are used to humidity - then it won't much bother you there. I know this isn't giving you much detail, but it is a positive testimony from someone whose friends are loving it there. These folks, by the way, have grown kids and even some grand kids now, so they took that into consideration when looking for a neighborhood that was safe and friendly, and pretty new. Good luck from a Pacific NW gal who is looking to get into a sunnier climate once again, even if it measn to the southern part of Oregon. We have 4 grown kids - 3 of whom are here and one of our granddaughters is also here, so don't want to go too far, but we are drowning here in the Portland area and getting achey and creaky!!! Miss that sunshine. ;O)

Hey! I'm Matt. This is my first post here, so hopefully it will be helpful.

I grew up in Iuka, MS, but I lived in Booneville now for about 2 years and I've worked in Corinth for 5 or 6 years now. It's a great, great area. Of the three, my heart belongs to Iuka.

Corinth is quite a bit larger, has a great hospital (sorry, shameless [but truthful] plug for my employer), and you're right in the center of Tupelo, MS; Florence, AL; Jackson and Memphis, TN. Look at Iuka and the surrounding area for great camping (they have more parks "than you can shake a stick at").

And the best part... Iuka has a drive-in theater.

Question Need Help--please

I am relocating to Iuka, Mississippi this month and need a place to park our camper. I checked with JP Coleman, but was told by someone there that there was a restriction on the length of the camper and we could not stay.
Does anyone out there know of a good place to stay either in Iuka or the surrounding area?
Many Thanks

Are you still relocating to Iuka? Have you considered Corinth, MS very nearby?

Hello, I am a developer in Corinth, MS and love what you had to say about our small town. Can I get permission to use your quote on our website? I think it sums up well what we are all about here, and when you get ready to move to the "sunny South" we'll be ready to receive "ya'll".

Have a good day!
