Hi! I am going to be in Hattiesburg and Jackson this weekend looking for a good location to open a medical weight loss clinic. I haven't been to these areas since childhood, and I really need some advice from the locals:
Which city do you think a medical weight loss clinic would do well in?
Which areas should I seek for a location in these two cities, and which should I avoid? (I need street names so I can put them in a GPS tomorrow).
Thanks in advance for any and all advice you may have!!

The booming areas are Flowood (Lakeland Drive), Ridgeland and Madison, and Highway 98 West in Hattiesburg.

I liked Jackson. I heard that inside the actual city the crime rate and taxes are pretty high. So maybe around Pearl? Do you think I'd still get business in Pearl from Jackson?

The best medical facilities in the state are located in Jackson: University of Mississippi Medical Center, St. Dominic's Hospital, Baptist Hospital, etc. Most who live outside Jackson will tell you that your family will get murdered if you live in Jackson, yet many who live outside of the city limits cross that line every day to/from work. I live and work in Jackson, and while there are bad areas of town (just like every other city of substantial size), most of the city and it's areas of frequent use/interest are just as safe as the suburbs. There are several clinics in Fondren - start your search at the corner of State Street and Duling Ave. I would also look around Downtown since it is growing, and also east of I-55 in northeast Jackson and along Lakeland Drive. I would want a location that has easy/quick access from the interstates and main roads - hope this helps.

true indeed about the taxes...but crime is a toss up.
Jackson is great city to live in, you just have to know "where" to live so you can enjoy it. the problem is, Jackson has a bunch of "rough pockets" thorughout so it appears that the entire city is crime riddled, which to an outsider I can understand the concern. you can work just about anywhere, BUT...

The absolute best areas to live in are:

Fondren area
Meadowbrook/Chastain area
Millsaps/Belhaven area
Eastover (East Jackson)
Highland village area
McDowell Road area
Byram area (south)
South Jackson (some areas)
West Jackson (some areas)
Woodhaven (Northside)
Woodlea (Northside)
Dinsmor (Northside)

Areas to avoid:

Georgetown/Maple Street area (West- Midtown area)
Lynch and Ellis Ave (West Jackson)
Brown Bottom
Farish Street (Downtown - getting better)
Doodyville (Downtown-mid town)
Virden Addition (North)
Washington Addition (North)
Bailey Ave (North)
Presidential Hills (Northwest)
White Rock area (Northwest)
MLK area (Mid town)
Lower Medgar Evers/Woodrow Wilson area (Midtown)
Gallatin Street (midtown)

Pearl is KKK country. AND it's a dry county. very racist Police force. you WILL get a ticket for the lightest offense ...NO Warnings, ever.

the best surrounding areas to live are Madison, Brandon, Byram, Clinton, Raymond, and Flowood...Madison being the best.

Northside Drive is not bad at all east of I-55, and the rest of it is not even all that bad. Also, State Street, Old Canton Road, Ridgewood Road, County Line Road, Pearl Street and High Street are worthy of making the list for sure.
