Vicksburg War Museum and Cemetary for sure...then ride the Natchez Trace for as long as you can. lots to see on that Trace.

also try the Petrified Forest in Pocahontas, about 3 miles west of Jackson.

Also try the Pearl River Resort. it's an Oasis in the middle of Mississippi complete with a Casino and a Hard Rock cafe. and REAL Native Americans still live there.

It's actually Biloxi that has the Hard Rock Casino and Cafe, but Pearl River Resort is cool as well.

Canton also has a nice square, just north of Jackson. Jackson has quite a bit of blues history to explore and you can listen to live music at a number of places. Also, Downtown is nice to visit as there is a lot of building/renovation going on right now. Fondren, just north of Downtown, has great restaurants and shopping - lots of arts there.

Let me also suggest Tunica. Even if you don't like casinos (which are actually 10 miles or so north of the town of Tunica in Robinsonville), Tunica has a few things going on such as riverboat cruises, the Riverpark, outlet shopping, sporting events such as rodeos, motocross, etc., and a historic downtown.

If you don't mind the casinos there are concerts, buffets, boxing, etc.

you are correct. my bad.

I was thinking about Geyser Falls and calling it the Hard Rock Geyser Falls Water Theme Park Choctaw, MS- Home Page this is a great waterpark, and definitely worth a visit if you're visiting Mississippi.

I'm not quite old enough for Casinos yet, however I am interested in Riverboats and the like.

If you're in south Mississippi, there's a place on Hwy 587 called Red Bluff aka Mississippi's miniature "grand canyon." It's an area with lots of dramatic hills and in one area the Pearl River has caused one of the largest hills to erode away over hundreds of years. It slowly consumes more and more of the hill every time it rains, so the highway has been rerouted several times - just recently they constructed a bypass. As a kid, we once took cardboard boxes with us and rode down the sandy ditches that the erosion caused. Here's a partial side shot, but it shows some it:
