Hi there

My family will be moving to MS in Feb of 08. We are military and will be living there for 5 years. We are thinking of living in the Ocean Springs area. We already have a real estate person we are working with.

Questions I have are:

Anyone know if there are good orthopedic doctors for children around the area? As well as therapists such at OT, PT, and speech? I have two young children that will need all of these services. I also have a teen..but that is another problem in its self lol.

What are the main collages? My husband will be working on his masters while there.

I am also a professional photographer. How are the beaches there to photograph on? Are they clean? Is there a bunch of buildings or structures in the way? Where would you suggest the best places to photograph portraits? I photograph mostly children and am looking forward to shooting on the beach. Also since I will have to start all over again with establishing clients....are there fairs such as baby fairs or woman’s shows?

As you may remember, August 2005 changed many things on the coast when Hurricane Katrina came on shore. Ocean Springs is on the east side of the coast and I'm not sure how much damage they received. I know from the LA line toward Gulfport, everything was pretty much wiped out from the beach inland. Last summer the beaches still had a lot of debris on them. I am going with a volunteer group on June 18 and help clean the beaches near Gulfport.

As far as a college nearby, the University of Southern Mississippi is located up Hwy 49 in Hattiesburg. It is when I graduated college from with a degree in biology. There is also William Carey College, a private college, in south Hattiesburg. The University of Southern Mississippi also had a Gulf Coast branch but I know they received tremendous amounts of damage during the Hurricane.

Not sure about the Dr. situation on the coast but I'm sure you'll get some responses on that from other readers. Hattiesburg has two fine hospitals and many good doctors. I believe that you can find any type of doctor you need in Hattiesburg.

Good luck with your move.

Default Ocean Springs

I moved to Ocean Springs on July 1, 2005 our home in Ocean Springs did not sustain any damage but our business in Biloxi did. The Biloxi-Ocean Springs area has made a remarkable recovery. There are places on the beach for photography and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Cumminity College is an excellant school to attend. It has made a complete recovery and has been for quite some time!! We still have a long road ahead in the recovering process but we will be better and more appealing (for lack of better words) than before. Ocean Springs does have an excellent OT,PT it is part of the Encore Rehabilitation System. Ocean Springs Rehabilitation is the name of the clinic. As far as an Orthopedic Surgeon we are lucky to have one of the best in the Southeast his name is Dr. Jeff Noblin. I will try to add a link if it does not attach just Google him. Good Luck on your move. Our School system is also excellant Dr Jeffrey Noblin Orthopedic surgeon Ocean Springs, MS
