I lived in the vicenty of Duncan, Mississippi until 1957. Mound Bayou was a great city. It had its own Hospitals (2) and a Monkey Zoo for the kids at least three schools.

Per City-Data, Mound Bayou has lost 27% of its population in the past ten years. Something is going on there, something that is probably related to why it was mentioned in the Greenville thread.

There is a group of Roman Catholic nuns living in Mound Bayou working to help the community. The place is called St. Gabriel Mercy Center and is part of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church:

My mom went there last Christmas with a friend and bought a ton of pottery.
