A family of 5 in a 2 bedroom is a risk for a landlord, my former neighbor moved into their dreamhouse after he got married, and ended up moving back into the old house, and selling the other, after trying to help out a renter that left him out to dry, even after giving them a $250 per month break because he had a heart for kids.. Try searching for unfurnished houses.. Also please define "affordable"..

What do you consider "affordable"? What sources have you tried so far? There are a number of property management companies that come up if you google "rental agencies missoula" that might be a good place to start. There are also usually a lot of listings in the classifieds of the local paper at missoulian.com/admarkert and select "rentals".

If you can come up with a modest down payment and don't mind living in a fixer that's doesn't need too much work, you can most likely buy a place for less than you can rent for the size of place that you really should have to be comfortable in.
Dang that was a long sentence.

Instead of everybody saying "Affordable is out of the question", how about saying what they cost. Give some ideas.

I thought things around here weren't too bad. But I've seen some prices posted up there that are cheaper then where I live. How about a 3 bedroom 2 bath on large lot for $2400? That's what nice places are running here. Apartments in the section 8 area run $800 and better. They mix the section 8's in with the rest. If you are not section 8, you too can start out with a 2 bedroom apartment at $800 a month.

The prices up there have got to be better then that.

Yeah but who wants to live in Butte? Most people in Butte don't want to live in Butte. They seem to be trapped there....or something.
