We moved away from Bozeman a couple years ago because we got tired of things not working out with the lack of services and the constant fighting to get services and the lack of a hospital and the constant driving to and from Billings, Misssoula, and Denver for specialist appointments, etc. But...we have found that in our current Midwestern city of roughly 400,000 it is not any better and we are still doing all those same things (driving hours, fighting, having to have advocates/legal help) but WiTHOUT mountains, WItHOUT horseback riding WITHOUT skiing, WITHOUT camping, hiking, nature, scenery, great summer weather, low traffic, etc etc etc. Plus the school situation is worse here than it was in Montana in terms of what is going on. We aren't sure about moving back to Bozeman or not, but I'm curious if Missoula's schools have decent special education services. I also noticed after doing some research that the state has gotten a grant for trauma-informed care training and that they've added some mental health services in the schools through contract with Acadia.
If anyone knows anything about any of this or has a kid in special education, could you please weigh in on this. We need a place that has some decent mental health supports in the school or community.
