I am strongly considering moving to Missoula next spring, and am looking for opinions about how I would fit in as a person in my early/mid 30's. I am recently single after 15 years, and the town seems to fit what I am looking for to start anew.

A little background, I am born and bred in New Hampshire but fell in love with MT when traveling with my family through Glacier National Park 20+ years ago. I did revisit GNP in August 2014 and fell in love all over again. The idea of moving to MT has been on my mind for a while, and I finally feel the freedom to possibly make that a reality.

Though I didn't get to visit Missoula, it seems to fit my idea of being accessible to all the beauty of MT with the small town feel I am used to in NH. I grew up in Durham NH where the University of New Hampshire is located, and although not exactly the same I am very familiar and comfortable with living in a college town (lived there from age 5 through my college years). I am also politically progressive, and understand from my research this would be the place to find like-minded people in an otherwise conservative state.

Long story short, I feel I would adjust well to and enjoy the climate and culture I would find in Missoula. Unfortunately I cannot afford to go visit like many would suggest before making the leap.

I also understand the job situation is very tough in MT, and would be looking to take my current job remotely or find other remote job opportunities to be able to support myself. I have read too many stories about people moving to MT and having to move away again due to the harsh economic realities.

Anyways, just looking for some opinions or advice from people who know Missoula. Thanks in advance!

Coming here without a job would require a good bit of disposable funds for living expenses. Studio / 1 BDR's are $575+ , Would really depend on your career field. Myself being in IT/Software Engineering ... It took me about 2 years to finally find work.

The Government Job Service:

Missoula Job Service Home Page

Has tons of jobs. Chatting with a rep recently stated, " Best job market they have seen in over ten years."

Depends on you really.

Lots of similarities to Durham, as far as a College Town. I say come visit first. But if you are in rush, and you save up some, you should be fine. The town is "booming!"

Thanks for the feedback! It seems like there is a good job market in certain industries, for those that have the right background and experience.

The other question I have is whether there is a social scene for the 30 something (single) crowd? I'm not exactly a social butterfly, but it would be nice to be able to meet some people my age. Would love some opinions
