My daughter and I will be moving to Missoula from Iowa for her to go to college. We will be looking for acreage for our goats and chickens. We’re looking for good areas to search - relatively flat and within 20 minutes or so to campus. Are there areas that have more bears than others? We would be open to new construction as well.

Maybe east of Frenchtown, west of Clinton or around Lolo.

Bears would be more likely in Bitterroot Valley and other areas right up against the National Forest but possible wherever there is food (garbage, chicken coops...) especially in spring.

Isn't Bitterroot Valley very rural with lots of bears?

I lived near Missoula ( in the Bitterroot Valley) and worked in Missoula for a couple of years.

You've checked into land prices in that area I assume?

You didn't state your budget but hope it's a very large one. Missoula and surrounding are VERY unafordable and have been for years but getting a lot worse.......

Bears aren't your concern so much as dollar are.
