You will only waste your money. We sprayed our weeds etc and the state hwy dept won't spray there's even after they said they will! We will be overrun with thistles next year.

Lop the blooms/heads so that they cannot re-seed themselves. I'm not certain why you profess that any effort toward noxious weed control is a waste of time/money. Every thistle eliminated lessens the seeds number of seeds available to be spread.

Forest Resources
Spraying them is the best way overall. Do you actually think i should walk across the road to the state hwy right of way and attempt to cut the heads off of about 1 million thistle plants?

What i am saying is it is a waste of your time and money to do weed control next to state hwy land when they won't do it themselves.

Cutting thisles does little to control them.

Unless you're willing to re-cut them abot 2-4 times a year as the cut thistle regrows and re-blooms several times a season.

I've fought thistles all my life ( thankfull for herbicides ) and don't need to read any book or link on how to control them w/o herbicides !

I agree that spraying is the best way. My suggestion to cut was in response to the OP stating spraying is a waste of $$.

And to the OP, yes, if you want to make a dent in noxious weed control you have to start with yourself rather than expecting the government to do everything for you. I control the thistles on my ground and when I must, on the country road nearby as well. Every little bit helps.

Jut spoke to State Hwy DEPT. They are spraying all this week. A new noxious weed is emerging. Called a Teezle. Looks a lot like a thistle but only an annual but very invasive.

So, basically, your rant was for nothing. Nice.
