We've lost one of the greatest story tellers in the Ozarks (and a darned good blue grass musician) with the passing of Mitch Jayne on August 1. If you haven't already read them, Check out "Home Grown Stories & Home Fried Lies; Words With the Bark On Them & Other Ozark Oddments," then read, "Old Fish Hawk" (made into a movie by the same name in 1979), "Fiddler's Ghost;" and "Forest in the Wind."

Starting in the 1960s Jayne played upright bass with the Dillards (who portrayed The Darlings on the old Andy Griffith Show), and worte the lyrics for bluegrass classics including "Dooley," "Never See My Home Again," and "There is a Time."

Groups such as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Linda Ronstadt all point to the Dillards as a strong influence on their musical journey.

Whether you're new to the Ozarks or have lived here all your lives, Jayne's books will delight you.

Default Ozarks Watch Video Magazine

There are two wonderful interviews with Mitch Jayne at Ozarks Watch Video Magazine. If folks who live in the Ozarks do not have this site bookmarked, they are missing some wonderful television. I hooked my laptop up to the big screen TV and we're watching the shows one by one.
