good!! LOTS of mills in nebraska too.....

i suspect that hsus would have an impossible-to-win fight on their hands if they started moving into farming and hunting in this state.....

and yes, there may be an uptick in dogs going into shelters as breeders dump their stock.... some have already begun to do so..... but there are breed rescues across the country that can absorb many of those that are still salvageable.... sadly, many of these dogs will just be sold to mills in other states to perpetuate the cycle....

once the breeders have dumped the stock that they no longer have use for, then the obscene number of mill puppies coming from this state will greatly diminish.... it won't happen overnight.... but with luck, it WILL happen.....

Alright, I admit it, I'm not on the committee of Public Relations, or the Head Council of HSUS, but based on the legislation they've passed in previous states, and the way they move into regulating farm animals and agriculture, Missouri is next on the list to regulate them.

They're also advertising for an Executive Director in Nebraska to get an Initiative going there.
Interesting.

Nebraska is said to have the second highest number of puppy mills. I expected some initiative in Nebraska, but not this soon.

Will most likely be after 2012, for all the prep time, waiting for another General Election etc...
Another possible target is Oklahoma...

Why don't they go for a federal regulation instead of going state by state?

It's easier to gain ground through emotional appeals to the people state by state.

^More so that it's easier to get initiatives on state ballots via a simple and cheap signature campaign.

Default The anti-prop B baloney is a snark sandwich...

First, can someone tell us what law ANYWHERE other than N. Korea has adequate enforcement.
We have laws against murder, people still get murdered.
We have laws against drunk driving, people still drive drunk.
We don't have enough police, firemen, special ed teachers......is that the fault of the law?

Second, NOBODY is going to take away your stupid guns. Ever ever. You've got the whole country held hostage by your own snarky lobby-wonks and you are well aware of this so please sit down.

Third, Nobody with half a brain thinks that dog breeders will cease to be.
Ever. Nobody with even a small piece of brain intends to shwonk the responsible breeder into nonexistence. This is a canard.

Third, this anti-Hsus/Peta rhetoric is so yesterday. Please tell me what organization on earth is free of BS..

Fourth, The corporate mega farms are against ANY humane laws for the simple reason that they do want their bottom line waggled by the added expense of alterations in the way they treat livestock. Duh.
This should be so obvious to be laughable. 'Bidness 101. What a surprise.

Fifth, The corporate megafarms feed baloney to their legislative lackeys, who in turn spit it out to the unsophisticated country folk who ..tragically.. lap it back up, not understanding..or wanting to understand..that their REAL enemy is the corporate megafarm, not the 'animal rights terrorist' smokescreen created by Richard Berman.

To prove this beyond all reasonable doubt, here, in all their illucid silliness, are some EXACT quotes from various knuckleheads who call themselves adults:

"They(animal rights activists) are going to eliminate every traditional use of animals and many other American freedoms"

James M. Beers, for the NRA
........................................
In other states where this type of law has passed, subsequent language changes in the law have expanded it to restrict and eliminate agricultural animal breeding.
Missourians for Conservative Values PAC
.................................................
(HSUS) will accomplish their stated agenda of the elimination of pets and the animal agriculture industry
Susan Barton
Missouri Farm Bureau
.................................................. .
Proposition B is part of a radical
animal rights agenda that ultimately
seeks to eliminate animal agriculture, including raising livestock
Pat Conway
....................................
'If*the*HSUS gets Prop B passed in Missouri, “they will come after livestock...'and shut agriculture down.'
** * * * * State Rep. Brian *Munzlinger
*..............................................
'If Proposition B passes, these radical animal rights organizations and individuals won’t stop there.* As experienced in other states, they will work to further regulate Missouri farmers, driving them out of business as well and driving up food costs,”*
"They have destroyed the pork industry in Florida with a ballot initiative. They’ve destroyed the egg industry in California with a ballot initiative.'
** * * * *Charles Kruse, president of Missouri Farm Bureau
...........................

*'HSUS has decimated the egg industry forcing chicken farmers out of business ... HSUS eliminated the pork industry. (Wondering why pork prices are going sky high?) They’ve also crippled numerous other agribusinesses – dragging connected industries down with them.'
** * * * Tea Party member*Joseph *Wurzelbacher

.............................

THERE YOU HAVE IT!

Pass Prop B and the mighty Wayne Pacelle and his merry band of proselytizing vegans will 'shut agriculture down', 'drive farmers out of business' and do away with all livestock.

Badda bing! All the multibillion dollar multinational Monsantos and Purinas and Con Agras and Walmarts and Frank Perdues are going to lie down and roll over and play dead, tofu-burgers clutched to their bosoms..

And last, if you want to know the ACTUAL problem farming is facing right now, read the ag reports.

It's GRAIN, not Wayne.

Welcome to the confederacy of dunces....

One small difference: those who break these laws get hunted down (when possible) and get prosecuted. Some murder cases are worked on for decades until there's a breakthrough. These laws are enforced.

The analogy doesn't quite fit in this case.

'When possible': operative phrase denoting 'possibility', not absoluteness...
Analogy holds.

Sorry. Fail!

I don't see *anybody* pursuing many of your puppy mills' operators who are in violation of existing laws. They don't have to hide, change their identities and disappear across state lines into oblivion to avoid prosecution. Not so with murderers. Even murder cases that grow cold are not abandoned. The effort continues.

There's no policy of "let's make nice" and maybe they'll comply with the law, as there is with puppy mills.
