I have just received a job offer in Kansas City, I will remain with my current Company. I currently live in Salt Lake City, Utah. My wife works for Delta Airlines so we were looking in the Parkville, Weatherby Lake area. We liked both area's very much. The City to me seemed a bit confusing to get around, we liked the Brookside area, but it was a long way to get to the Freeway. My wife is part hispanic,so along with my 8 year old daughter they have brown skin, I know in this day and age it seems stupid to worry about racism but we all know it exists. So my concerns are as follows, race relations, tornado's and outdoor activities. I grew up surfing in Northern California and here in Salt Lake there are of course Mountains and skiing. I know neither exist in Missouri but what is there available as far as nature and the outdoors. Also some feedback on Parkville and Weatherby Lake, they seem like really cool spots. Thanks!

Riocard - don't know much about those particular areas of KC, but, will say first off, if you do decide on the KC area - WELCOME TO MISSOURI!!! Tornadoes, don't worry about 'em; they happen, they blow over... As to your son and wife, that is cool, that should not be a problem at all. If it is, please let me know, and I will have some friends take care of that situation... Seriously, KC is quite diverse, not as much as some areas, but yas should be good. As to nature/outdoors, KC and area is working on their bike/hiking paths, and opportunities exist for such. Boating and other lake activities are also numerous - depending upon how far you desire to go. LOL, you are correct, and don't want to discourage you at all, but SLC, man, that is one heck of an awesome area - have spent some time, both to the east and west, and loved it there; KC will have,,, well,,, ummmm,,, nevermind... KC, well, they don't have the mountains, but they have BBQ...

parkville is a lovely area if you can swing a home there you should be quite happy, a nice small town feel with big city amenities.

i would try to find a home with a basement due to tornadoes. maybe you will never need it but maybe you will, plus you won't have to worry what to do. i have one (basement) and I'm glad if it ever gets bad its easy to go down there and forget about it.

Brookside is a higher crime rate area than parkville, sorry for so many messages

there are many lovely lake areas in kansas city. Some in Lee's Summit which is also nice but I like your Parkville idea. In fact, I was telling my brother the other day that if I could swing it, thats where I'd go. I currently live in South Kansas City.

I don't think you will find much race relations problems. The area where I live is about 50 percent black and I just mind my own business.

Parkville is lovely, and any place near the airport has a fairly easy drive to the freeway systems. I'd grab a K.C. job offer in a minute. I'm in CA now, husband to retire in 2008, thinking of going back to work. I raised my two sons North of the River in Kansas City. It in my opinion, has the best of many things. Outdoor activities, culture, sports, jazz and GREAT barbque! My suggestion is to go online, get as much city info as you can and a map of the city. I found K.C. a lot easier to find my way than any city of any size in CA. Good luck to you!
