Carthage Marion Days are here! There are approximately 50,000 Vietnamese from across the country in town for a Catholic festival. Lots of food tents and interesting things going on. By Sunday afternoon, they will all be gone. I will be avoiding Wal-mart until then, as it gets a little chaotic. We will probably go over tonight and eat, something we try to do every year. In the past, locals have been a little shy about checking it out, but the priests at the Seminary encourage everyone to give it a try so white people are a common sight now. If you want authentic Vietnamese food (sit-down as well as hand food) come on over. I think there is a parade on Saturday with traditional costumes, and they hold Mass frequently. Sometimes V. pop singers perform for the younger crowd. Let me know if you want directions!

Untrue! There are so many good restaurants set up on the grounds, who wants a tough 7 year old Schnauzer??!! Just kidding. It's really a very peaceful crowd, they don't want the city to make them stop coming. And we have law enforcement from about 4 area towns helping out, mostly for lost kids, stolen cars (they steal them from home and drive them HERE),runaways (again, runaway from home to come HERE with friends) and vehicle control. Some local families play host to the same Vietnamese families every year, letting them camp on their lawn and having barbecues.

Kansas City holds a large Japanese festival in the fall, I believe. After our trip to Japan this spring, my friend Chieko suggested we go to it.
