The Pecuilar Police dept has a Confederate battle flag in its patch due to its history in the area. Why isn't there a big uproar about it?

Kansas City is absolutely, unabashedly, 100% Midwestern in every way by modern standards. Its closest relatives are Omaha and Des Moines. Everyone I know from the KC metro area, and I know a lot of them, from old to young, identifies as Midwestern. All are lifelong residents of the city. Those who choose to see other wise need to realize 150 years ago is not today. As I expected, yet another thread gets hijacked. The South starts well over 100 miles below KC. Even Joplin really isn't the south. My dad grew up there, and never considered it to be the south.

That's a little misleading. Their normal patch has the state seal on it.

Missouri - My Collection

If you are referring to their Civil War anniversary patch seen here
http://www.norwoodma.gov/webpages/npd/images/ppd.gif (broken link) you will notice it honors residents who fought for both sides. This may explain why there is no 'uproar' over it.

And how in the world did another thread turn into a Midwest versus Southern disagreement??

A buddy of mine from Lee's Summit was surprised to learn what state me and by buddy from Kennett were from after he heard us talk. He also didn't know that Missouri grows cotton & rice and asked us if we considered ourselves southerners.

I would say Kansas City acts more like most of rural Missouri than St. Louis does, but that has little to nothing to do with how southern the city is (or isn't)

I'd agree there. However, there really is nothing southern at all about Kansas City. Missouri is a Midwest state with Southern influences.

Back to the original question, Granite is almost always correct. Minnesota is far nicer and more educated than rural Missourians...Go north

I think Minnesota has more to offer, both in the country and in the city. The only reason not to move to Minnesota instead of Missouri is the winter, IMO.

I think everyone should move to Minnesota - Land of 10,000 lakes (including mud puddles, no doubt).

A 200 acre hobby-farm type of deal would be easier and cheaper to find in Missouri. Especially the southern part.

In your opinion only. We will have to agree to disagree then. The whole tri-state area of Southwest Missouri is half-southern, half-Midwestern. My dad grew up there, so I think he'd know where he's from better than you. Also, all his friends and family didn't identify as southern. Bible Belt does not equal Southern. The stronger Southern influences as you call them may start around between Nevada, Joplin, Monett, and Springfield. South of these cities is where the real south starts.
