IF you have to drive to St. Louis to get gooey butter cake I'd be pretty shocked. You can find recipes for it in cookbooks...I recall even seeing one for it in my mother's cookbook. but I'm fairly certain that given gooey butter cake was invented over 100 years ago, it probably exist throughtout most of the Eastern and Midwestern and Southern United States. If you can't get it, simply get a cookbook and make it yourself..lol...that's how I solved the sweet tea problem up here

Hi there: sundrop is/was a soft drink. Almost the colour of Gateraide, with a lemony flavor, sold in green bottles. I still have one of the bottles.

As far as Gooey Butter Cake goes, you can find it in many outlying areas, not just in St. Louis. I buy it sometimes in grocery stores in Franklin county which is located next to St. Louis county. Have found it in other locations as well. It is just the most delightful and fattening treat ever. The very best. Square pan. soft insides on a semi-firm crust with a little bit of a crumb-like topping and sprinkled heavily with powdered sugar. Hmmmm hmmmm good.

And with a tall very cold glass of SKIM milk hahaha

You can make it yourself. Many recipes available, but some not as good as the store bought. Go figure.

Default Scrambled brains..

Memories abound on this thread. When I was a kid, my dad, who is from north central Kansas, used to fix scrambled brains and eggs with diced hot chile's on top. Yukko...

The other thing I've seen here that he used to eat when I was a kid, is fried baloney sandwiches. They seem to be pretty common out this direction.

We lived out in Lakewood Hills (off F or FF I think) not too far from the Black Madonna (?). We were out there 1980 thru 83.

Yes, I use to eat baloney sandwiches grilled. However, I do not eat much processed lunch meat anymore. Even the fresh deli meat is still processed. Processed food has a lot of additives and preservatives.

Plains10...Oh yes, my Dad used to eat fried baloney sandwiches. Also, after he came home from his service in the Navy, we had 'Spam' fixed in different ways. Grilled or fried with brown sugar and on bread with either mayo or mustard.

Thanks for the reminder.
