My family is considering a move to Columbia MO this summer, and we have a 5 year old who will start kindergarten in the Fall. She is bilingual (Spanish/English) and very bright. I can tell that Millcreek is an excellent school based on the scores, but it does not seem to have much diversity. Can anyone give me the nitty gritty on schools such as Millcreek, Paxton Keeley, and Russell? I have read good things about the latter two, but their scores are not very high. For us, academic quality outweighs diversity, but we would love to find a school and neighborhood that can provide both.

I am also interested in neighborhood suggestions - I have read forums from a few years ago in which Valley View, Thornbrook, Smithton Ridge, and Lake Woodrail were recommended. What are your thoughts on these neighborhoods? Any recommendations for family-friendly neighborhoods with larger lots (1+ acres) within the 200,000 - 300,000 range?

Thanks!

This seems like some sound advice:

Good luck, there is nothing more important than a childs education!

Allyia, please do let me know what you find out. It is confirmed that we will be moving to Columbia as soon as we sell our house, but who knows how long that will take. CIS seems like an AMAZING school, but the tuition is extremely high and we would not qualify for much tuition assistance. If you are interest in CIS, just send the admission's coordinator an email to request potential aid information, and she will get back to you very quickly. We are leaning toward Mill Creek with Paxton Keeley a close second, but that is still based mostly on scores. We haven't really heard or read any recent comments about the two schools, so it is a hard decision. Hopefully, our real estate agent will be able to help. Good luck on your quest for information - I will be sure to share what I find with you also.

7gkids - thank you for the link!
