I wanted to add, be aware that the pace of life in the Osceola area (and the midwest in general, in my experience) is slower than that on the coast. If you go to the post office, the clerk will chat with his customers for a bit during and after he processes their order. At convenience stores, many people pay by check at the register (in NJ, rarely did that ever happen). Just be patient. It's good to slow down sometimes. And watch out for cross traffic on Rt. 13, I am told every once in a while people jet across all 4 lanes too fast, without stopping in the middle, and there have been some serious car wrecks. And in MO, they take getting into the left lane to make room for emergency personnel AND Amish carts VERY seriously. So keep an eye out and expect sudden merges in either case.

I live in Osceola, and I have to say that it is a wonderful place to live... it may be small and mostly quiet, but it is a wonderful place to stay. Yes you may have to go to Clinton or Bolivar to go shopping, but it is worth it, I know, I just went to Clinton last night and bought a few things.. But I just wanted to say something about Osceola, so I guess I'll be going now..

My memory isn't great, but I'm pretty sure that in the Charles Portis novel, True Grit, Osceola is mentioned as the birthplace of Reuben "Rooster" Cogburn. I have no idea why Portis would have selected Osceola for the nativity of his character.
