I posted earlier a completely different approach (to Medicare) by buying patents and making medicine open source, but that's way to complicated for politicians to understand.
I have based the vast majority of my opinion on Obamacare on one and only one thing: The expertise of my doctor friends who are wildly in favor of it.

I saw a study earlier this summer that 8/10 medical students support ACA and that's in addition to having the approval of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Association of Medical Colleges.

You can listen to the vitriol; I'll listen to the experts with their boots on the ground.

Yeah, I agree with the desired benefits but do not see how it can be realistically executed. This form of it is not the way to do it IMO. Depends on what 'expert' you listen to in the entire chain of the system. And I might be wrong about it dying. It seemed to be backing off later half this year but some reports are coming out it will be pushed hard. Oh well. I voted for him and will have to swallow whatever happens (I couldn't vote for him or McCain last time). It was really the only item I was particularly against with him (at least in the form he proposed). Am hoping for lots of modifications that makes it more logistically possible w/out impacting alot of areas like small biz and the way insurance works. It's too much Fed control across every aspect of the chain. I'd rather see them work just up front like the open source med patents I talked about, or something along those lines. I'm OK with Feds setting up strategic direction and establishing standard practices but not with controlling the entire chain.

Since the collections will be handed by the IRS, the tax man cometh and siezeth thy assets. Of course, those taxable amounts will be swollen by penalties and interest.

The states are to set up insurance pools to address your problem. A few republican states have refused to do o and the Federal govt will if they don't. That is how i understand it.

Just because the state sets up a pool doesn't mean that people on the lower end of the economic scale will be able to afford the premiums.

Our state is one of those that just voted not to establish a pool. We believe it's a matter of states rights and this strange thing called "personal freedom." Unfortunately, the current administration seems not to believe in either.

On balance however, there is also the issue of individual responsibility. That needs to play out just as much as the rest.

When did Obama take away your Guns, your Gods, or make you a card carrying commie?
Don't know about you, but I still enjoy all my constitutional rights (and will fight tooth and nail if any are taken away)

Stop being so afraid.

If anything, you are now allowed to carry guns into national parks, you will now be able to get healthcare with preexisting conditions and for your children that are under 26 years of age.

If anything your freedoms are restricted by the Republican party that falls lockstep to pledges made to Grover Norquist. These pledges restrict many decent legislators from voting their conscious rather than a group mindset.

I agree. They take a pledge to serve the United States AND they took a pledge to Grover Norquist.
How does that work out. Who are they actually loyal too?
