I never said it was not possible to receive any snow. All I am saying is it is highly unusual to receive two feet of snow, and I think it would be more unusual for someone from Missouri to act like 2 feet of snow is no big deal. Even getting 6 inches of snow is a big deal in any part of the state, and it will close schools down anywhere. You don't see schools in northern states closing down for 6 inches of snow. The bootheel may have less wind, but compared to the southern Ozarks....south of Rolla, the average low is no different during the winter months. Look at any average temperature map, they are easy to find via google.

I agree with you about the snow thing, especially south of I-70. The older folks around SE Missouri talk about the Blizzard of 1979. That was the only time that we got that much snow. The annual average is about 11 inches or so I think in the Jackson/Cape Girardeau area. Speaking of which, we have already gotten our average annual snowfall. It's been a strange winter so far that's for sure.

Yep, that snowfall was very unusual. We JUST missed it here. They were predicting 6-8 inches for us, then we ended up getting nada. I know some places in Arkansas got over a foot though!!

This is the last "big" snow I remember from a few years ago. Closed down I-44 around Joplin for awhile.

That one came the year after this one ....

Neither of which was as bad as the ice storm's of Feb 2008. Let it snow all it wants but ice belongs in a glass of sweet tea - not on power lines.

Actually THB you're wrong there! Southern MO near US 60 on south has mild winters.

SW MO is actually as warm as the bootheel. Joplin on South.

West Plains also has mild winter, Joplins winters are mild, Go to the National Weather Service Springfields page and go look at the Nowdata and the daily highs averages for Seneca, Joplin, Diamond, West Plains Missouri.

Far SW MO Seneca is actually warmer than Caruthersville and Malden based on the 1980-2010 climate data.

However though, while far SW MO like Joplin, Seneca is as warm or warmer than the bootheel, they do however get more snowfall than the bootheel. HEre are the stats below so the usual suspects on here can't claim I'm making the numbers up. the numbers when I posted this get shifted though but you can go to the link and look at it but example for seneca day 1 for Jan high is 46 on average but it gets shifted over when I try and paste it.

According to any map I have looked at we average less than 12'' inches of snow annually here. Sadly we don't have actual statistics in Branson. I wish it snowed more, I love the snow!!!

We moved here in 2009. It snowed Christmas Eve so we awoke to a white Chrismas. What a greeting for our new home. Magical!

I drove a school bus for Reeds Spring for 28 years in the '60s, 70's and 80's and they are not good vehicles to travel these slanting, curvey narrow roads in newly unplowed snowy roads. Many is the time during that period we would get notice of early school dismissal and the snow would come down so fast we couldn't complete our routes. We would have to shuttle the outlying kids home in 4 wheel vehicles. Usually Supers that grew up in the area were better in not getting caught with a lot of stranded kids at the school. I don't recall a child ever getting hurt one one of our many busses from snowy weather. I think that is a pretty good record for the bus drivers in this area. IMO
