We are moving to Missouri this coming summer. Our hope was to use the VA loan. My husband is retiring from the military. I contacted a bank about applying for a loan so we could get a home lined up before we move. Since he does not have a job yet, his retire date is after our move, the mortgage company will not approve us for a loan.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we just not tell them he is retiring? We will have our pension and disability, but that is not enough. We need a home lined up before we move. Please help!!!

I would try more than one bank if you have not already done so. You might also want to post this question in the Financial forum.
Also would you be open to renting before buying? Having relocated from out of state also, I would encourage anyone doing the same to rent before buying. Once you are actually here and get a feel for the area, you might decide you would prefer to live in a different neighborhood or town.

Who do you bank with right now? I know that the major military banks (Navy Federal Credit Union etc) will be more understanding of your predicament and I know they offer the VA loan. My husband is out of the military and we still bank with Navy Fed.

Good luck to you!

Shannon County is very beautiful...I'm from Camden County, but spent many childhood vacations down that way going to the springs, mills, canoeing on the river. It's on our short-list, too.

The entire county has a population of just over 8,000. Winona is the largest town - just 1300 residents. It is the poorest county in the state.

Outdoor activities are limited only by your imagination, and there will be the usual school and church functions, but for any other type of activities you will have to travel a way.

The OP obviously doesn't care because she hasn't been back for a month and a half.

You sound like your looking for a place like Mt. Vernon. It's small sound and self-sufficient. Skilled jobs are available and it's not far from I-44 and just far enough from Springfield that the commute wouldn't be too bad.

I am the original poster and I am still checking in. I appreciate all the advice. We found a really nice realtor who is helping us with our financing.
Looks like my thread was hijacked, so I will back out. Thanks again for all the advice.
