The same discussion goes on over how to pronounce Nixa...is the "Nix-A" or "Nix-E". Usually it's the old time natives that add the "E".

Just think "Nix-e, Missour-ah!"

I have been here, (all over the state) for the most part, since 1960. Rarely have I ever heard it called Missour-ah. I cringe when I hear the polititions say it that way. I guess it's a matter of preference.

It was originaly called Kansas, CITY..then slipped into Kansas City, it is a great city, lots to do..however, it is not like NY or LA or Dallas..it is very laid back. I have traveled a lot and always love to get home to our laid back easy way of li fe here. People are friendly, we have a great Lyric Opera, Sports Complex for the boys, wonderful parks and the best BBQ west of the Rio Grande. Christmas in Kansas City is a wonderful experience..beautiful.

Most everyone says Missoureee however, the Governors of the state will always pronounce it Missourah. I think a while back a decision was made as to how a Governor should pronounce it and AH beat EE.

(tongue planted firmly in cheek) In the summers in Springfield, we used to call it Misery!

I have lots of friends that live in and are from Kansas City; the majority of them call it KC. Maybe it's certain areas. They all live around Brookside.

As for the proper pronouncement of Missouri, my grandmother, who lived in California since she was around 18 to 60 but lived her formative years in Stigler, OK, always pronounced it Missour-ah. I live in Springfield, and I hear it pronounced both ways. I pronounce it with the 'e', but tend to draw out the ouri part. I think it's part of the residual southern drawl from living in Arkansas.
