People native to Kansas City call it "Kansas City". Newbies and visitors call it "KC". We don't like that.

Hey, what about "Missour - E" vs. "Missour - AH???" I'm from NJ and say "Missour - E," but we met people from KC over the summer and they said "Missour - AH." Should we call it "Missour - AH" when we go out to visit?

I say "Kansas City" when I talk, but it's easier to type KC. I would not ever say KC, I think KC is the brand name for barbeque sauce. lol

I grew up in Kansas City and everyone I've ever known has said it both ways. I've never heard Missourians refer to the state as "missour-ah".

I grew up in the KC area and to me KC or Kansas City are interchangeable and equally acceptable.

As for the missourah-missouree debate, it's fairly regionalized. Missourah is, in my mind a more folksy expression likely to be used by someone whose family has been here for many generations, especially in rural areas and areas that were generally sympathetic to the South during the civil war. I find myself using both.

Missourah is correct IMO. . Without extreme emphasis on ah. Born and raised here for 54 yrs. Doubt that you will offend anyone though. Come visit we want your tourist dollars!

Talking MO Money - that's funny!

Can we bring our tax dollars and retirement money too if we come to stay?

I am native and I pronounce it Missouree -- my sister, on t other hand, pronounces it Missourah. We don't care how you pronounce it as long as you are nice and don't deal drugs...:-)

Hehe so true! I honestly don't think most people would be offended if you say it differently than they do.
