Dead Coyotee? Like did it somehow sneak in, or was it some rube threw it in there (Stl term would be hoosier) and were planning on making a meal of it?

For Dinner we ate at Montana Mikes which was decent, but the prices were kinda high. I'd rather eat at Outback or Longhorn if it has to be a chain place for steaks.

I guess when it's a tourist town they can cut corners these places because they know they're the only place around to eat.

Of course in Stl I've had some bad experiences at chain places. LongHorn near me has gone way downhill. We decided to try it again last year and the hostes was so rude we just walked out and before that food was terrible when it used to be great.
Yeah Branson doesn't have many decent family ran restaurants, most are chains...sadly! I go out of town to arkansas or springfield to get more variety.

Sounds like St. Louisan and a few others on here are trying to turn this thread into an attack/hate fest. IMHO, that kind of crap shoudn't be allowed on CD; because for one, it is counterproductive to answering the question that the OP had, and a complete waste of time and cyberspace.

Yes Harrison is the closest sizable town about 30 mins from Branson and has several restaurants that are family owned. Omaha is a bit closer to Branson though, it's about 15 mins but they only have one or two restaurants the town is tiny. They have this one restaurant called Charlie's Cafe and its awesome! The lady who owns it makes homemade pies every day.

Ozark used to have some pretty good food once you got off the highway.

Tontitown in NWAR is a historical small community in Washington County about 10 miles WNW of Fayetteville that is well known for its Italian food and festivals. Springdale has some pretty good food too.

I was at the art fair in Webster Groves today and one of the artist selling their craftwork was from Dexter Missouri. She clearly had a good southern draw to her speech. Before I even saw her business card on the shelf I could tell she was from the south by her speech pattern.

Billy bob's dairyland is good burgers. Places I have heard HORRIBLE things about....Plantation restaurant and Whipper snappers(they actually found a dead coyotee in the freezer at whipper snappers)....they should be closed down!
Sounds to me like Branson's the only area of the state you have any true knowledge of. Stop trying to speak for the whole state as Southern when all you can really do is speak for your area. The rest of the state is not like the southern quarter of the state.

Disagree. There's no such thing as Missourian. Missouri lies in both the Midwest and South...the southern quarter being the South, the rest of the state being the Midwest. Maybe 25-50% transition as StLouisan, MoSouthernman, etc. have said.

True. I'd say it's more like 50 percent Midwestern and 25 percent Dixie and 25 percent a mix of Midwest and southern influence similar to far southern IL and southern IN.

As a whole Missouri is still a Midwest state though. However it does stick out from all the other Midwest states though as a noticeable part of the state is located in the south still.

I wish the census wasn't so broad though with their regions because I don't think the entire state of MO should be in the Midwest geographically or culturally. Just like Delaware doesn't belong in the south, and most of Maryland as well except for a few places along the eastern shore. Then you have WV the narrow part that jets way way north is also not southern.

If I made a more detailed census map, I'd have the south starting along Cape Girardeau over to near springfield and extending south of Joplin, and in south central MO I'd have the south areas extending north a bit more as the UNIV of PA speech pattern map also backs up as well in that area.
