The Bullfight Riot Of 1904

I didn't know the animal rights groups were that powerful in those days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_bullfight_riot

If those bloodthirsty fans wanted to see a bullfight they should have gone down to Mexico to watch this spectacle, least there were no casualties. The Mexicans learned something on that day, you don't fk with a buffalo, and that ain't no bull.

The Pirates Lafitte

I wish I could find that website I saw a couple of years ago. They had a long and informative story on Jean Lafitte and his brother Pierre. According to that site both brothers moved to Missouri after their pirate days and became respectable citizens and both were buried in a St.Louis cemetery.

An old newspaper article about a rainmaker in Missouri.

THE RAINMAKER FAILED

August 18, 1894, Mexico,Missouri---George Matthews, self-styled rain maker from Kansas, has failed to fill his contract here. He agreed, for $400, within six days to give Audrain County a good shower of rain. His time was up last night and he failed to deliver any rain. He packed his machinery and returned to his home in Wichita. He claims that he succeeded in producing ice clouds daily, but that the moisture clouds could not be gathered on account of the unfavorable condition of the atmosphere.

In 1944-1945, the Japanese began launching balloon bombs (fugos) off the island of Honshu at the United States, about 6000 miles away. They sent over 9000 of them, most landed in the ocean but over 300 of them reached Canada,Mexico and 18 US states. The only casualties were 5 children and a pregnant woman who were on a church outing in Oregon. One of the children spotted the balloon canvas near a creek and called the others over to look at it, when he started to touch it there was a huge explosion. The park ranger said when he got there he saw a huge crater and the bodies were scattered around it like a pinwheel. The majority of the balloons landed around the west coast but a few landed in the Midwest, Iowa,Kansas and the closest to Missouri was in Nebraska, about 70 miles from the state border.
