Most of the gold found in Missouri is fine powdered gold, there has never been any significant amounts of gold recovered by commercial mining. Missouri's gold is usually found in the northern counties by the Missouri River.

During August 26-27 of 1883, outlaw Frank James was on trial for murder in the first degree at the courthouse in Gallatin, Missouri. About that same time, one of the largest explosions known to man occurred 10,000 miles away when a volcano erupted on Krakatoa blowing away 70% of the island and killing 40,000 people. William E. Matlock " Spider Matlock " (1903-1936)

One of the early daredevils. He was the " racing mechanic " riding with Billy Arnold when he won the Indianapolis 500 in 1930. He was also a champion motorcycle racer and a wing-walker on barnstorming biplanes. He was killed in a crash at the old Legion Ascot Speedway in Los Angeles in 1936. The racetrack was closed for 8 months after the accident and then burned to the ground.

On September 11,1974, The St.Louis Cardinals defeated the Mets in New York 4-3 in 25 innings. That is the 2nd longest game in MLB history.


One of the hottest MLB games ever played in St.Louis was on July 14, 1936, when the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 11-7 on a 108 degree day.


It was 43 degrees on October 24, 2006, at Busch Stadium for the 3rd game of the World Series between the Tigers and the Cardinals. That was the 4th coldest postseason game in the major leagues since 1997.
