Some Animal Cracker History.

Captain James Dozier partnered with Augustus Weyl to form the Dozier-Weyl Cracker Company in 1871 in St. Louis. They were one of the two companies that first began producing animal crackers in the United States. I knew they would have the Shirley Temple song on there.

There are two species of rabbit in Missouri. The eastern cottontail is the most common in the state. The larger swamp rabbit lives only in the Bootheel area, and though they are two distinct species, many people refer to both as cottontails.

Missouri is home to three species of tree squirrels: the fox squirrel, the gray squirrel and the smallest of the three, the southern flying squirrel.

There are two types of vultures in Missouri. The most common is the turkey vulture which can be found throughout the state, while the black vulture is usually found in the southernmost counties. Both species are limited to the southernmost counties during the winter.

There are long-tailed weasels in Missouri but they are rare and the smaller weasel is present only in extreme northern Missouri.
