The main destructive termite species in Missouri is the Eastern Subterranean Termite which is also the most common in the U.S. They are about 3/8 long including the wings with a dark brown body. Swarming generally occurs in the spring, usually in the morning following a warm rain shower.

A drunken Junius Brutus Booth, John Wilkes father, was playing Richard III in St. Louis and during the fight scene with Richmond he got carried away and actually wounded the terrified actor playing Richmond and chased him off the stage and out into the street.

On April 23, 1879, Edwin Booth, John Wilkes brother, was performing at McVickers Theatre in Chicago when a man in the audience, Mark Gray Lyons, a former St.Louis newsboy and dry goods clerk pulled a .32 revolver and fired two shots at the actor. He was captured and put in an insane asylum.
