Walter Huston (1883-1950)
Actor who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre in 1948. He had given up acting in 1904 to work as a manager of electric power stations in Nevada, Missouri, but resumed his acting career 5 years later. He was the father of John Huston, who directed The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, and the grandfather of Angelica Huston.

In 1858, John Hockaday began weekly mail service by stagecoach between Independence and Salt Lake City, and John Butterfield, with a $600,000 annual appropriation from Congress, established semi-monthly mail transportation by coach and rail from St. Louis to San Francisco.
