Enjoy reading all the posts about small town Missouri. We have been in Missouri since 2002..live in a town with POP 289...in fact, I am on the Village Board of Trustee's at present time. Sorry to say, this area does NOT want growth and change. We live where there could be much tourist trade trade thru this tiny village....but folks here say no or say nothing.
We are still, at our age, talking about "going west " Around the Springfield area. I totally LOVE CARTHAGE !!! Anyone from that area ?
How are to hospitals and doctors over that way? Hubby has health issues...
Diabetic....CLL....Heart....but keeps on going and feels great !
We would like to open a small "mom / pop" shop. Antiques, crafts, etc etc.
Judy in middle Mo.

I am from Carthage, have lived here 23 years. The healthcare system in this area is very good. Carthage is building a brand-new version of the old McCune-Brooks Hospital which has been around for many years. It should be open in 2008 I believe. In addition, Joplin is only 20 miles away and boasts 2 very good hospitals, Freeman and St. John's. I am partial to St. John's since I have worked there for 18 years. We have been ranked a top 100 hospital for several years running, with excellent cardiac, orthopedic and cancer treatment facilities. Both hospital offer outpatient clinics in Joplin and surrounding towns. Both have helicopter service and maternity services. Carthage also has its share of family physicians, dentists and vets. If you are interested in retirement living, a new area called the Village at Rollins Creek has just opened in the last year or two. There are also many newer homes or historic Victorian homes to choose from. I would be happy to answer any other questions for you, as well as make recommedations for a good mechanic, etc. I love my town!

I live in Kansas just about 35 mins. from St. Joe. St. Joe, and any of the towns in between there and Kansas City are great areas. Weston Missouri which is just off of I-29 is a charming old town. It has alot of old homes, has alot of special things going on. Like the Irish Fest, things at the hoildays, and it is just about 35-40 mins. from Kansas City.

The area of Kansas that I live in is right on the Missouri River, we have rolling hills, valleys, lakes, this part is not like western Kansas, (which I love) that is flat. You might want to check into Atchison, and some of the towns that are on the River for they have some of the most beautiful homes and new ones also. Wish you luck in whichever area you move too.
