We are driving from St Louis to Wilmington, NC and my wife has a crippling phobia of any mountain roads/passes. Is there a way to get there and completely avoid these types of roads? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

St. Louis, Paducah Ken., Nashville Tenn., Knoxvile Tenn., Ashville N.C., Columbia S.C., Wilmington, N.C. is the fastest route. It does cross the Appalachians, however all the mountain roads will be Interstate Highway - four or more lanes, reasonable grades, no dangerous curves.
