Hi all, I will be moving to Columbia in the summer of this year and was wondering if anyone could give me detailed insight on the area that I am considering moving to. I am looking at the Park's Edge duplexes across the street from Oakland Middle School and was wondering how safe an area that is. I can't afford to live the nicest parts of town but from what I've gathered the nice parts are very interspersed with the not so nice parts. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I had a buddy and his wife who lived about one block from there, and I visited on several occasions. I thought that it was overall a modest but pretty nice area, and definitely seemed safe to me. Seemed fairly quiet, I wouldn't hesitate to live there. There was also a married couple in their adjacent duplex, who I believe were both veterinary students. The school across Blue Ridge Rd has an attached park area with tennis courts, which is nice. Columbia really doesn't have any "bad" areas, and even if it did, this wouldn't be it.

I used to live near Oakland Park, it is a park that has had several shootings recently. I always felt safe walking there during the day or playing tennis, but it was a pretty dead park and once the shootings started happening, I found myself spending more time at Stephens Lake Park.
