Classes were canceled?

I visited family in New Hampshire for the Christmas holidays and they had a foot of snow cleared in no time at all. The key is that they continually plow while the storm is ongoing.

Doesn't surprise me. While 8 and a half inches is a big amount for most places, for a place like Upper Michigan, New Hampshire, or any place in the snowbelt, that's not uncommon, heck, not even uncommon, more like routine. Since I made that post btw, we now are up to 8 and a half actually. New Hampshire though doesn't surprise me at all....Upstate New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire are some of the snowiest places in the U.S., so I would expect it would take 30 inches of snow to slow them down. I've heard that once Buffalo didn't shut down until it got 86 inches or so. Cleveland was not much different. I'm not sure classes necessarily even needed to be cancelled...I was driving on the roads last night when there was six inches of snow on the ground, I just couldn't go the normal speeds hehe. Some places were getting cleared up better than others. but yea...our guys didn't get started plowing the roads until about midway into the storm and by that point heavy snow was falling, so they waited too long. My dad still went to work today in spite of the snow.

Well Gang, I had TONS of fun in the snow yesterday. A friend of mine is in the process of moving, and our timing was awful!!! We were loading trucks and SUVs in the middle of it all. The scary part is that I'd never driven in the snow before, so here I am, driving frost bitten hilly roads, in a blizzard, in the dark! Hows that for CraZy?!?!?!?!?!? LOL

I just kept telling myself that there was no time like the present to learn....LOL cuz I had to learn sometime, right? The worst part was that I didn't have anyone in the car with me that could give me words of wisdom.

LOL So there we are, going from the house, to the car, to the house, to the car, in all that snow......snow blowin' in yer face. I was soooo ill prepared. I had sneakers with no tread on 'em, so I kept slipping. LOL My jacket didn't zip, and I was FREEZING!! LOL

THEN, after we got everything unpacked, we went to leave, and her car got stuck in the snow. We ended up having to get behind the car and push it while she gave it the gas. Well, since my tennies couldn't get traction, I kept slipping and falling. It was hilarious!!!!! It was like the classic scene where someone is in the mud, and everytime they try to get up they just slip and fall again. LMAO!!! It was so funny. I still crack up about it. Oh, and did I mention that I was wearing a skirt? LOL

At the end of our 3+ hour ordeal, we made it through just fine, and they escorted me home to make sure I made it ok. Whew!!! What an adventure, huh? So what did I learn from it all???? The lesson was NOT to try to move in a snow storm/blizzard. However, if one HAD to, make sure you wear snow shoes, a jacket that zips closed, hat, gloves, scarf & warm pants. Oh, and one more thing.....a video camera. You never know when you have a Funniest Home Video moment. LOLOLOLOL

And having real good friends to share it with......priceless.

OMG! ROTFL, that sooooooooo reminds me of when I was a wild young thing in mo, got stuck all the time in the winter, never, ever, did I have the right clothing!!!

Well, it looks like we all fared pretty well...with the exception of our own little Boof, of course! Funneee stuff, Boof! When you were first telling the story, I was trying to imagine you in pants but I couldn't. Hahaha! Then, you made the picture complete...you were in a dress! I think you're the only person I know who would wear a dress...in any weather...to help someone move!!! I would have loved to have been a bird up in a tree watching that funny scene!!!

I guess we got about 5 inches? Not sure...but it wasn't all that impressive. Much of the first wave's snow melted before the second began. My husband shoveled the deck between waves, too. He used my SUV to go to work today so he'd have 4-wheel drive if necessary.

Wasn't it a beautiful day, today??? That was some serious sunshine we had goin' on!!!

Now you know the value of a good pair of boots I have a pair I bought several years ago in a town in the Appalachians and they are waterproof and last forever. I am glad you managed the snowstorm fairly well

Apparantly the papers are saying this is the biggest snowfall for St. Louis in 15 years. lol, it's less than an inch more of snow than the storm we had earlier this winter, i admit it's not often st. louis sees a snowstorm in excess of half a foot, but it's also not like they happen once every 20 years....it happens numerous times now, and used to happen much more often when I was a little kid. I have pictures of me building snowmen in the backyard basically the first four years of my life, and there was still snow to spare. In any case, St. Louis' total snowfall so far this year is 16.4 inches....that is more than Indianapolis (well 0.1 inches more lol), Columbus, Kansas City, and Cincinnati have had so far. Cincinnati has gotten a mere 8 inches so far...Columbus has gotten about 13, Kansas City about 14.6, etc. This has been a snowy winter to say the least...snowfalls for most cities are just above, just below or at their average snowfall. Maybe things are getting back to normal again.

Central NH, where my family lives, has seen about 75 inches of snow so far this winter.
