I think you may have something there.

Douglas County MO is also much more rural and most people are of the same religion. That area has historically not seen many people moving in from other areas AT ALL. Many areas of southern MO are becoming popular places to retire. However, the more isolated counties in the Ozarks have not seen much non-farm employment growth at all.

I guess I am confused here. Why would someone want to move somewhere that the majority of the people are something they dread? I think the people are the most important thing to consider when moving somewhere, not the beauty or fun of the place.
I guess it's like a marriage, where one thinks they can change the other LOL. The only person you can change is you!

Default Stepford Wives

Maybe you have never heard of the stepford wives? The kind of "group think" where a woman has to be a certain way, with a smile on their face, the house cleaned, sex on demand for their spouse, etc....just blindly going through the motions of life without questioning, as that is the way it always has been done. Or did you ever see the Twilight Zone where a somewhat introspective woman was forced to choose a model to become, out of two models, a blond or a brunette, so she could become "happy" like the others. Come on now, do we really all have to be the same to live happily together, or can we appreciate and respect the differences?

By the way, my husband and I went on to buy our property after we had our encounter with this nut of a realtor, who was really way out of line. We bought through another realtor, who was also very involved in her church life, but in a wonderful way. A true Christian woman...honest, loving, helpful, wise and with a sense of humor, goodwill and respect for her fellow human beings.

If I am surrounded by a community of Christians like her, I will be extremely happy to be in Missouri.

The truth is not always pretty, but it's better to face up to it than pretend it doesn't exist.

Stepford wives, hhmmm guess I will have to look into that, but sounds like me lol. Not blindly though, but out of respect.

"can we appreciate and respect the differences?",
honestly that is a nice thought but I don't believe it is reality for most.

I am glad all turned out well for you with buying your property!

"the truth is not always pretty, but it's better to face up to it than pretend it does'nt exist."

Could'nt agree more!

(Ok, I just looked up Stepford Wives, that looks pretty creepy LOL. I'm not into sci-fi)

I don't think the OP dread religious people, he/she dreads religious folks who will ostracize him/her for not being one.

that is what i was asking. We ran into a situation in my sons little league. I have 5 sons by the way so I am always at some type of sporting event. anyway, there were some kids on the team, and I was the coach. The parents werereal nice and friendly, then after a couple of weeks they asked us to go to church with them. I told them flat out that we do not go to church. We became like lepers and my kids we no longer allowed to play with theirs. Heartbreaking, just an awful situation/. They were baptist by the way so I do not know if this makes a differnce, but after 5 years I still have a bad taste in my mouth over the whole experience. THese were little kids!!!!

I don't blame you for being wary of a similar situation then at all! What a horrible story.
