Have my eye on Cape Giradeau.

I am retired human services pro, white guy in declining health.
On a fixed income so on a budget.

Much appreciate any answers to these questions:

They have alot of doctors there, question is are they co-opted as in many
cities by big corporate conglomerates-are they independent or following
corporate protocols? Are they mostly young or old? U.S. trained for foreign?
Being a small town can I expect professionalism and confidentiality from
medical services there? Do they take Medicare generally?

How many health clubs exist there with sauna, jacuzzi, pool, etc?

What's the bus system like? Any good?

What is the picture for tenants? Possible to find a furnished studio
apartment under $450 a month? Any laws existing for tenant rights or can I
expect, as in previous cities, landlords that want the rent but won't do any
maintenance.

Is the University open to the public? Can I use the library computers? How
about pools? Exercise rooms? Any special tuition breaks for seniors?

How is the shopping? Many supermarkets to choose from? Competition & prices?

Is there any place I can hang out to meet women 40-50's? Singles events?
I am not a church-goer or a joiner so is that going to be a problem for me
(believe in God, but not religion).

Thank you.

No idea about the doctor question. Sounds like the Southeast Healthpoint Fitness facility would be of some interest to you.

The university exercise facilities are open to the public with a membership. You will need to ask about the other facilities as I am not sure.

Cape has a Walmart & Walmart Neighborhood Market, Aldi, Schnucks (grocery store out of St. Louis I believe), Ruler (Owned by Kroger), Food Giant & maybe a few others I am forgetting. The neighboring town of Jackson has a Country Mart.

You will have to check on rent prices. I know that many rent prices are inflated in Cape due to the university being there. Jackson may be a better option. If you decide to live in Cape, stay north of Broadway to avoid much of the crime.

On the church thing, you should be fine. Most people do go to church though.

I haven't lived in that area in several years. Wish I could be of more help.

Cape has excellent medical facilities. Better than any big city places we went to in Ca.
With doctors who care about the patients, not just view them as a number with $$$

Also there are several posts complaining about the poor quality of doctors there even though there are two major hospitals there. The City is not known for recreation or nightlife, except stuff associated with a state University SEMO.
No reasonable person takes the website you are referring to seriously.

Well I typed it out the first time and it was caught in the forum filter. Starts with a T and ends with an X. Says it was removed due to spam.

Unless we are talking about a different forum, it doesn't only have posts about Cape Girardeau. Every town has its own forum on there, most of them filled with trolls.
