JOSEPH BENE ASSAULTED

Joseph Bene, proprietor of a saloon at Broadway and Barry street, was called to the door of his saloon yesterday morning by two men unknown to him and felled to the floor with a club. Several men in the saloon rushed to his assistance and drove his assailants away.
Bene is of the opinion that the attack was made on him because he refused to befriend Mrs. Donan, who alighted from a South Broadway car at Barry street Sunday afternoon, and when attacked by a mob, sought refuge in his saloon. Bene, it is charged, refused her admittance and he thinks that friends of Mrs. Donan assaulted him.

LAMAR NOT MURDERED

St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 28.---A coroner's jury today decided that B.F. Lamar, of Fairland, I.T., whose body was found yesterday in front of the Gaiety Theatre, with his skull crushed, died from injuries received in falling down a stairway. The testimony of the witnesses went to show that Lamar was not murdered, but that his death was accidental.

Seems like a lot of injuries just from a fall. And where did his money go ?
