1920s Bootlegging Gang Wars around St.Louis/Southern Illinois.

The two main gangs at that time were the Shelton Gang made up of 3 brothers and about 50 gunmen and the Charles Birger Gang operating out of Southern Illinois. These guys would make homemade armored tanks out of their trucks and even dropped dynamite bombs from an airplane. They joined forces to fight the Ku Klux Klan and after they defeated them they resumed their war with each other.

There are a lot of pictures on the internet of the Birger Gang and almost all of them show them with the guns they used.

I snatched these names from some gangster websites.
They were all from the St.Louis area and were all either gang members, union bosses, crime families or bikers from the 1890s to recent years. You can find information on some of them but most were low level members and there just isn't much known about them other than most got bumped off.

Don't forget that Harry Truman was first pushed into politics by Pendergast.

Raytown road was built during the Pendergast years, with his company providing the concrete. It is rumored that the concrete is 40 ft. deep in some areas.

Gallatin in Daviess County Missouri has a lot of interesting history.
Johnny Ringo lived there as a boy.
On November 17, 1867 the Reno Gang pulled a robbery there.
On December 7, 1869 Jesse and Frank James committed their first bank robbery there.

Here is a list of people who were executed for murder in the state of Missouri from 1810-1965.

Executions in Missouri - 1810-1965 - DeathPenaltyUSA, the database of executions in the United States

I was curious about #189 John Taylor executed in 1903 because it lists him as a baseball player.
I did a search on him and found a link that lists other baseball players executed for murder.
